Roberto Soli

is not just a dancer — he is a carrier of culture.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Roberto is a leading figure in Funk Carioca, a dance style born from the lived experience of youth in the favelas—neighborhoods often overlooked, but rich in rhythm, innovation, and community. Emerging in the early 2000s from the heart of Funk Carioca is more than just movement: it’s resistance, reinvention, and joy under pressure.

From viral battles in alleyways to international stages, Funk has evolved into a global symbol of Black Brazilian creativity. But its roots are local, deep, and personal—and few carry them with the authenticity and care that Roberto does.

As someone who learned Funk from the streets, cyphers, and elders of the scene, Roberto doesn’t just perform it—he lives it. Every step is tied to the stories of those who came before, the sound of the tamborzão, and the energy of the baile funk. His dance carries the weight of history, the spirit of his community, and the responsibility to honor where it comes from.

Taking FUNK Global
First Brazilian Funk Dance Tour in Australia

In 2025, Roberto becomes the first Funk dancer and instructor to tour Australia, bringing this cultural movement directly from the streets of Rio to studios, dance floors, and communities across the country.

But this isn’t just a tour—it’s an invitation to engage with the culture behind the moves. Every workshop is an opportunity to learn not just technique, but context. To understand how funk and Passinho grew out of systemic inequality, creativity, and resistance. To move with respect. To listen before learning.

When you learn Funk from Roberto, you’re not just learning choreography—you’re connecting to a living culture. You're stepping into a movement that continues to evolve, inspire, and transform lives.
